My prayers were answered on the job front. I have hated every minute of the time I spent in the OR the last 5 months. After tirelessly looking at the postings every Tuesday and Friday for 5 months, I got a new gig!! And literally it was down to the wire. The week I started in the GI dept. was the week I was supposed to start overnights in the OR. Thank you Jesus!!
So now to learn the new job and what it is all about. There are 3 main areas to the GI dept: Prep, in the rooms, or post or observation as they call it. I worked 2 days in prep and absolutely loved it. I missed the patients so much. And my mad skillz came back doing IV's. I got really good at them when I was on sedentary duty with Pierce and I'm back! I was throwing lines in everyone. And then the observation unit is just like the PACU that I used to work in. Actually, a lot less documentation and the patients pretty much all had the same things done. In the rooms with the surgeons/doctors is probably going to be my least favorite but they all seem nice (except 1) and a lot more calm. It's not surgery, we are just sticking scopes up people's butts! OMG and the air these people pass can be quite comical.
I have a lot to learn as far as instruments and tools but I did my first few biopsies and polypectomies and they went well. And Holla for wearing blue scrubs from the machine that I can actually wash myself now. No more itchy, stiff scrubs that give me a rash from the harsh detergent. And no more mask wearing for 12 long hours. I'm so happy!! So yeah, I guess I am a GI nurse or you can call me:
